Permeable flood resistant car parks: The EcoGrid solution

undefined

Car parks, they really are ugly normally aren’t they?

They cost a lot to install, what with all those drains underneath, all that ugly Tarmac and concrete. Plus, when we get a really bad storm; the rainwater just runs off and creates flooding in the locality.

Of course, there is no alternative; we all know that don’t we?…………………Oh, wait a minute

But what is this? OH, Ecogrid. But surely you cannot drive on these plastic grids?

Yes you can. Ecogrid has a point loading of 40 tonnes, that is equivalent to a fully laden articulated lorry turning and parking in selected bays. You can fill the grids with grass, gravel, top with resin bound stone or even artificial turf.

You need no infrastructure (that is drains and soakaways), you need less excavation (that means less spoil to landfill), less hardcore (our supplies are running low), the grids are quicker to install (less labour charges) and the entire surfacing will last well over 20 years (not a claim that asphalt or tarmac can make). So, what is the downside?

Well, you would have to change your entrenched mindset!
